The German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) has been concerned with questions of professionalisation of Adult Educators for many years, both in a national and international (European) perspective. Ms. Susanne Lattke and Ms. Kirsten Mülheims will present research projects and practice examples regarding the professionalisation of adult educators resulting from their work at the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) and the implementation of a European Master in Adult Education at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Ekkehard Nuissl von Rein, University of Duisburg-Essen in Cooperation with the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE). Student counselling and development of the European Master in Adult Education (EMAE). Researcher at DIE Deutschen Institut für Erwachsenenbildung, Unit: Structural Data, Project: Soft Open Method of Coordination (SMOC). PhD project on the goals of European adult education policy.

Susanne Lattke

Susanne Lattke holds a M.A. degree in romance philology and history (universitiy of Frankfurt) and a M.A. degree in adult education (university of Kaiserslautern). She has been working since 1995 at the German Institute for Adult Education (Bonn) in various positions. Currently she is a research associ-ate in the programme "Professionalism" of the DIE's Research and Development Centre. Key areas of interest beside the professional development of adult educators include international adult, education, EU policy on adult education, lifelong learning concepts and policies. Since 2003 she has been Secretary General of the Consortium of European Research and Development Institutes for Adult Education.
